The Ohio Administrative Code for nurses helps identify and
differentiate scopes of practice.
The Ohio Administrative Code
for advanced practice nurses
includes the standards related
to the competent practice of an
Advanced Practice Nurse,
including that of a certified Family
Nurse Practitioner (FNP). A FNP is held accountable to core competencies that
provide the basis for practice; and include the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to independent practice for a FNP. Therefore, after completing eligibility
requirements, a FNP must apply for certification to obtain, maintain, and renew
licensure through a certifying and credentialing body such as the American Nurses
Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Certification Program (AANPCP). I have also included information on the Nurses
Code of Ethics, which provides a foundation for nursing as a statement of ethical obligations/duties for those entering the profession, as a nonnegotiable standard
and commitment to society.
